My Favourite is the Dirty Blonde!

2014-07-17 16.21.37Early in 2014 an Entrepreneurial Couple made a rather large splash into the Port Perry area. For probably a year I wondered who took over this odd industrial looking building that used to house the old dingy LCBO. When I saw the for sale pasted to the side of the building I thought to myself who the heck would want to buy that place. Well much to my surprise I saw a SOLD sign go up and for the next several months (probably close to a year) I saw a transformation unfold. I thought of every possible business that would be willing to take a chance on this location. Well I was wrong on every thought, I stood outside one day with my face pressed against the glass and thinking Wow !! Someone was not only opening a business they were carefully recreating the past. Slowly and carefully (painstakingly slow) reconstruction revealed a Craft brewery was to stand proudly on this corner that was for years just another corner in a quiet town. The detailing was beyond careful and what was created was beyond ordinary!!! Careful detailing and a dedication to maintaining the historical charm of the original building was on display every day I drove by, fact is, I made a point of going out of my way on my way home to check out the progress. Once this eye catching building was complete I took the first opportunity to thoroughly check it out nd ever since that day I have been waiting patiently to use this next line. From the Ashes of the past, came a fabulous new destination in Historical Downtown Port Perry. The Old Flame Brewery Co has arrived and is available for all of us to enjoy!

Old Flame Brewing Website

The Old Flame Brewing Co.is a craft brewery that took over what used to be most recently the LCBO, however there is a much longer history surrounding this location and building. Fact is the building that now houses this craft brewery was built way back in 1884 and was the Ontario Carriage Works. It has been many things since that time but today it is one of the most unique Historical buildings in Port Perry.  If maintaining the history is important to the people and politicians of the area then they would be well served to see exactly how it should be done and drop by for a visit. You can still the Charred beams that frame one of the Windows overlooking Perry Street. a brewery dedicated to creating the best craft beer and is nestled in the Historical District of Port Perry, Ontario. This Building has a fantastic history and the owners have not only revived the building to its former glory they have told the story of the many variations it has seen over the last 130 years .

The following was taken directly form the Old Flame Brewery website:

During our revitalization project we uncovered a wonderful and original post and beam structure, century old brick and the burnt timber of a historical blaze. The reuse of existing features like store front windows, stately Carriage doors and a salvaged bullet proof floor, gives our brewery a warm and friendly atmosphere. Repurposed industrial and factory equipment, salvaged local “pickings” and the signs of yesteryear furnish our tasting room and event centre.

Merchandise

I must admit admit I don’t know much about the brewing process, fact is I know nothing about the process or how to make beer, However I do know that I sincerely enjoy tasting the hand crafted products the Old Flame produces. The Beers can be purchased on site (they have several taps) and you can sit and enjoy the wonderful and unique building or if you are heading to the cottage just drop by raid the massive fridges they have and take a few of the unique brown bottles to enjoy on your own time on the dock or by the campfire.

The Old Flame Offers 3 Types of Craft Brews

Old Flame Blonde – Old Flame Red – Old Flame Brunette. Try all three in a tasters pack. The very helpful staff will draw you a sample size of each so you can decide which will become your Favorite.

I also learned that the The Old Flame Brewing Company can also accommodate a special event! I couldn’t think of a more “Hip” setting for an event.

According to the Old Flame Brewing website the event Room can accommodate groups of 20 to 120 and is ideal for networking events, exhibitions, live musical performances, media launches, speaker events, meetings, fundraisers, workshops, wedding receptions, book reading and pop-up dinners.

If you are visiting Port Perry or simply driving Through don’t miss the opportunity to drop by this wonderful creation nestled on the North East Corner of Perry and Mary! Map
